Sources:

For uniform items, either Schipperfabrik or Great War Militaria are acceptable. For boots, Mattimore Harness is the only good source although other substitutes may be used with the approval of the unit commander. For most equipment items, once again Schipperfabrik is a good source or you can use originals if you can locate them. For items such as helmets, you will probably have to search either online on Ebay or at local gun shows. Finally, for rifles, some of the best sources are local gun shows, Gunbroker.com or Auction Arms.

Basic Points:

While building a basic Doughboy impression is easier than it's been in the past, unfortunately it's not going to be cheap. The best place to start is with the basic uniform and then work on the equipment and weapons. For new members, the unit can arrange some loaner gear but it's ultimately up to the individual unit members to secure their own uniform and other kit. While there is no fixed deadline for accomplishing this, it's expected that members will have secured their personal uniforms within a year and have everything by the end of two years. As with all things, there are exceptions but this is at the discretion of the unit commander. Finally, before buying anything from an unapproved source or if in doubt, PLEASE CONSULT WITH THE UNIT COMMANDER FIRST! This will save you both money and aggravation- nothing is worse is spending a lot of money on an item and then it not being correct.
